WARREN, IL – Every year as the summer comes to an end, football season begins and people in the area look forward to the Annual Warren Pumpkin Festival. This year, expect the same great people and fun with a different location. The Jo Daviess County Fairground is a per-fect place to have all these great activities all in one place. A great place to catch up with old friends who always seem to make it back for this one special event. Friday afternoon beginning at 4:30 p.m. Arts and Craft Vendors will set up their spots in the Exhibit hall to be shown off. The Arts and Craft Show will be open from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. At 5:00 p.m. Pony Rides from Plath Family Farms will be available for $2.00 each. At 5:00 p.m., A&A Attractions will open up once again to bring the rides and entertaining games that keep us striving to be winners. You can pre-pay for wristbands good for the unlimited rides at Community Bank, Apple River State Bank, War-ren Drug Store or the Warren School. Friday you can ride from 5:00 to 10:00 p.m. for just $12.00 if you buy your ticket in advance. At the ticket booth they will be $17.00. The beer tent will open up at 5:30 p.m. to make sure that you don’t go thirsty. TEN GALLON HAT will start per-forming at 9:00 p.m. in the beer tent. They are a local favorite, making everyone feel good with their laid back music that is a hit for all ages. This will be a great way to start your Pumpkin Festival off right! The fun will start early on Satur-day, September 22nd. Sign-in for the Pumpkin Run/Walk will start at 7:00 a.m. at Meridian Park with the race starting at 8:00 a.m. Make sure to set your alarm and join the fun or just watch the masses as they race to the finish. The fairgrounds will be a busy place on Saturday morning, with craft booths from businesses and local vendors, which will open at 10:00 a.m. and will be available to be checked out until 4:00 p.m. The carnival will be open for rides from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Saturday. With wristbands available from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. for just $17.00 in advance or $22.00 at the ticket booth. There will be plenty to do for the whole family on Saturday. At 10:00 a.m., the Big Wheel Races and Kids Tractor Pull will be held. It’s always fun to see the little ones in these events. Future pullers start here. From 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. a petting zoo will be set up for kids of all ages. The parade line-up will start at the Fairgrounds at 11:00 a.m. with the parade starting at 1:00 p.m. For those looking for something to do while they wait for the parade to start, the beer tent will be open at noon. The parade, which will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, will start at the fairgrounds, go north on Beebe Street, turn west on North Avenue and turn south on Cole Avenue. The route will continue south from Cole onto Railroad Street, eventually turning east on High Street to return to the fairgrounds. New this year, the parade will be parading around the fairgrounds, so you will also be able to watch the entire parade in the fairgounds as well as anywhere on the parade route. With the new parade route large vehicles and long vehicles will not be able to make some of the cor-ners or stay under some of the wires on the route. Please feel free to park your vehicles at the fairgrounds with your signage for all to see. This year there will be no one announcing the parade to identify the entries so please use your own signage and feel free to pass out any literature along the route From 11:00 a.m. to dusk, helicop-ter rides will be offered again. What a great way to get a view of the whole Pumpkin Festival than up in the air. At 2:00 p.m., head to the Grand-stand and check out the ATV and Garden Tractor Pull. This is a great event to watch and perform in, make sure to go out and support the people who take the time to bring these machines out and show them off. There is no charge for this event. The Warren Fire Department will hold their amazing steak fry at the Fairgrounds this year, starting at 4:30 p.m. These guys are some of the best cooks around and you are sure to smell the food before you get into the gate. This year vendors featured will be The Thriving Thistle, Karlmon Ribs, Sunny Day Lemon Shake-ups, Frank’s Franks, Retro-Fry, Warren Chamber Donut Holes Cheese Curds and Curly Fries, Manny’s Pizza and the famous Mulligan Stew. Check out the Power Wheels Derby at 5:30 p.m in the grand-stands. The Annual Warren Chamber auction featuring baskets, gift certificates, pie, cake and other local items at 6:00 p.m. Be sure to support local business and get yourself or someone you know a great gift in the process. Afterwards, starting at 6:30 p.m. The 1st Pumpkin Smash Demo will take place with power puff, compact, fullsize and outlaw events will take place. The cost is $10.00 and will be good for Sunday as well. THE SUNSHINE BAND will follow, performing 9:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. in the beer tent. They have been performing for over 40 years. If you haven’t seen them, be sure to come see why they have stood the test of time. Get your Sunday started right by getting your hands on the Warren Lions Club Pork Chop BBQ, starting at 11:00 a.m. and serving until it’s all gone. Come early because food like this is guaranteed to go quick. Don’t worry, if they run out, the other ven-dors will also be open until 8:00 p.m. The Arts and Craft Show will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. There will be no shortage of entertainment as the Helicopter rides will be offered from 11:00 a.m. til dusk and the Carnival will be open from noon with all-day wristbands for $22 (pre-paid $17) running until 5:00 p.m. At the carnival, enter to win a bike with the purchase of a wristband. The prize winners will be announced at 5:15 p.m. Two win-ners will be announced, a lucky girl and boy! At noon, the Riverbend Antique Tractor Pullers will be in the Grand-stand. To close out the weekend at 5:00 p.m The Pumpkin 100 with School Buses and Compact Cars Enduro has been added to the list. Tickets will be $10.00 unless you have previously purchased one for the Derby on Saturday Night. It is a great event to watch and always draws a large crowd. We hope to see you there.
