WARREN COMMUNITY UNIT DISTRICT #205 – A YEAR IN REVIEW

On behalf of Warren CUSD 205, we hope all of you had a great 2018. We are truly blessed to serve our wonderful community and stu-dents. We had an excellent school year and have much to look forward to in 2019. We relentlessly pursue our vision of excellence. We teach our students to believe in this excellence and that they can achieve it exhibiting our core values of com-passion, integrity, respect, responsibility and service. Our ultimate goal is for these values to not only be present within the walls of our school building, but evident through-out our community.
Academically, we have two stu-dents who have been awarded the prestigious Illinois State Scholar award. They are Garrett Williams and Miah Stiefel. Our school district completed the final year of the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) assessment with our highest percentage of students meeting/exceeding state expecta-tions since it began in 2015. We have had some new team members added to our team this fall who are already becoming key contributors to the services we provide our students. As we look into 2019, we are looking to expand our elective course offerings as we are expanding our Family and Consumer Science program back to full-time as we have had several course requests for this program. Additionally, we are continuing to explore adding an art program. This year, the course requests did not support adding the program. However, we are making an asserted effort to increase our art at lower levels to generate this interest in future years. Finally, the Illinois State Board of Education selected our school district to participate in the Competency Based Education program. We are one of fifteen school districts in the state who have earned this opportunity. We plan to deliver an innovative, high-quality educational program to our students to best prepare them for college and their careers.
In regards to our extracurricular activities, we continue to offer the same programs to our students. Our students continue to give their best effort on and off the court. This year, we have introduced a new mobile app for all sports schedules. This app will keep you informed on the dates for our extracurricular events. You may get the mobile app from our website or contact Mr. Wild at the school. One big change for athletics next year will be the football cooperative. Starting next fall, we will be joining forces with Black Hawk and playing in the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association. We will still be hosting a couple home games at Meridian Park. We are excited for this new chapter of Warrior Football.

While we are very pleased with our school district, we continuously seek ways to improve, gain feedback and keep all stakeholders informed of the developments of their school district. Two ways we do this includes a climate survey and our State of the Schools event. Annually, we conduct the 5Essentials survey to receive feedback about our classroom ambitious instruction, effective leadership, collaborative teachers, involved families and supportive environment. The survey collects results from students, teachers and parents to give the district feedback to identify the strengths and areas of improvement of the district. We have a committee who devotes much time to reviewing these results. Upon this analysis, we then formulate action plans to better serve our students and district.
This year, we hosted our first State of the School event in September.

Nearly 100 people attended and we plan to offer this event again in the future. At this event, we hosted a dinner and opened our doors literally and figuratively to the com-munity. The audience toured our facilities, while discussing many facets of the school district including core academics, elective course offerings, extracurricular activities, school finances and many other topics.
Thank you for your continued support of our school district. We truly mean “our school district ” as it takes all of us as stakeholders to fulfill the needs of our students and community. Have a blessed Holiday Season and Happy New Year! Go Warriors!
Sincerely,
Mr. Teske and Mr. Knuth
